2 W high-power LED from Osram Opto Semiconductors:
More light, greater output
At 40 lumen, the high-power LED from Osram Opto Semiconductors is 25 percent brighter than before. The improved Golden Dragon LEDs in white also offer double the output and is now qualified for a maximum permissible current of 500 mA.
With this new LED, Osram Opto Semiconductors is taking one more step towards general lighting applications. It complies with the strict quality requirements of the automobile industry and can be processed using standard solder techniques.
A special reduced-aging resin prolongs the life of the white Golden Dragon to more than 50,000 hours. The material can withstand harsh ambient conditions such as extreme temperatures between -40°C and +100°C or tropical humidity up to 85%.
The impressive brightness and long life of this high-power LED open up a wide range of applications. For example, it can be used as a replacement for small incandescent lamps, create light effects on facades, mark steps and escape routes and provide effective lighting for outdoor advertising. Other possible applications include interior and exterior lighting for cars, backlighting of high-intensity displays and flashlight for digital cameras and mobile phones.
LED spotlights already comply with the ROHS Directive (EU Directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) which explicitly proscribes the use of lead and mercury and which comes into force on July 1, 2006. The high-power LED contains neither mercury nor arsenic. Since modern solder processes involve relatively high temperatures there is no lead either.
