Osram has received the Innovation Award for Architecture and Technology from the architecture journals AIT and Intelligente Architektur with "special recognition". The award was presented to the company and its partners during Light + Building 2004 in Frankfurt.

Osram has developed new illuminated partition walls in a joint project with the Department of Construction at the Technical University of Munich and the engineering office of Baierl & Demmelhuber in Töging, Germany. LED Colormix modules from the Linearlight series are integrated in the flexible WaVaria glass walls. This combination and integrated approach of all the partners involved impressed the jurors.

For the new walls, two glass panes that have been sand-blasted or coated on one side each are installed in a concealed frame construction. The panes are bonded to the frame. The coloured LED strips are integrated in the space between the panes, towards the bottom. Thanks to their compact size, the Optotronic control components from Osram can be easily accommodated in the element frame.

The LED Colormix modules provide variable, colourful and at the same time sophisticated lighting solutions. The colours of the RGB LED modules can be controlled and dimmed by remote control. Individual colour tones can be created by mixing different values of the three basic colours of red, green and blue. Fascinating futuristic colours can be composed. Unusual lighting effects can be used to give offices a stylish atmosphere.

The wall systems are quick and easy to install. Their extremely flexible design is fully in keeping with the trend towards flexibility in room partitioning. The walls are linked to one another with "Unicon" connectors. They are also used for transferring and forwarding al types of media from element to element (electricity, data, water and heating).

Innovation award for Osram:
LEDs bring light to walls and walls to life
The WaVaria system wall featuring LED technology was developed by Osram in cooperation with the Department of Construction at the Technical University of Munich and the engineering office of Baierl & Demmelhuber. The illuminated walls provide flexibility for modern room partitioning and variable colourful lighting solutions.
