New lightsource for the conference room of the Kantonalbank in Lucerne:
White LEDs for surface lighting and room lighting
REGENSBURG - Step-by-step the lighting power of LEDs is getting closer to that of conventional light sources. From one generation to the next, LEDs of the same wattage are yielding more light and opening up more potential applications.
Osram Opto Semiconductors Linearlight Modules are equipped with latest generation LEDs and, in their application as conference table lighting, have proved good enough to convince even the demanding board of directors of the Swiss Kantonalbank in Lucerne.
In the design of the conference room, architects and designers faced the challenge of coming up with an exclusive lighting concept which incorporated the latest lighting technology. A star-shaped ceiling lighting arrangement was chosen as the basic lighting for the conference room. The design concept envisaged the use of thin, virtually floating light panels for the direct lighting of the conference table. Thanks to the minimal dimensions of the LEDs it was possible to combine the flat lighting design requirements with a good price-to-light yield ratio. Integrated into these ultra-modern flat lamps, the white LEDs have passed their first practical test for surface and room lighting applications.
The four exclusive fixtures, each one a metre square in size, combine to provide an unusually homogenous source of lighting above the conference table. Each fixture is made up of 128 glass-mounted Linearlight Modules and combines the luminosity of 4096 white LEDs. The luminaires feature a sandwich-layout and are based on a perforated and insulated metal plate onto which the LED modules are mounted. From underneath they resemble a grid made up of dots of light on a dark background. Just as required for this lighting concept, the LED modules deliver cold, white light with a colour reproduction index of Ra = 80 and can achieve colour temperatures between 5250 and 6250 K. As a result, even the small print in contracts is completely clear - so none of the conference delegates should miss a thing! The luminaires are dimmable and give off a maximum of approx. 400 Lux at a distance of 1.20 m between the table top and the light source.
