LED Markerlights reduce the risk of accidents:
The Stockholm metro looks to LED modules from OSRAM
REGENSBURG - High-visibility flashing round MARKERlights in the signal colour of amber are now being used on the Stockholm metro to warn of an incoming train.
The low-profile, high-intensity modules are fitted along the edge of the platform and change from a permanent light to an unmistakable flashing light as soon as a train approaches. The modules are turned off while the train is in the station. Once the train departs they are switched back to permanent light. These LED modules should make the stations on the Stockholm metro safer by cutting down drastically on the risk of accidents. MARKERlights replace the 20 W tungsten-halogen lamps which were installed only two years ago and which have a much shorter life than the LED modules. The LED modules generate low maintenance costs and consume very little power; they are also extremely resistant to shocks and vibrations. There is no glare and the luminance is evenly distributed. "Everyone involved is very happy", says Börje Beronius, project manager at OSRAM Sweden. "The LED modules are an ideal light source for station platforms." Two stations have already benefited from effective marker and safety lighting, others will follow.
